Mortice Locks in Badminton and surrounding areas
Our Mortice Lock service means you can have our experienced locksmith come to fit your locks in exactly the right position within your door, as this type of lock can be trickier to fit.
Our Mortice Lock Fitting Service
Mortice locks are locks that require a pocket (or mortice) to be cut into the door where the lock is to be fitted, meaning the lock mechanism is concealed. This also reinforces the lock, and as they can be controlled on either side by a key, they are generally considered to be stronger and more versatile than the bored cylindrical lock.
Mortice locks come in a range of security levels, from 1 lever bathroom locks up to the 5-lever British Standard deadlocks and sashlocks often used on main entrances and secured areas. The new BS3621 now calls for a bolt throw of 20mm rather than the 14mm if the old British Standard, and all locks have anti-pick devices built in to reduce the chance of lock picking. These newer models are often the locks specified by most home insurers.
Common Faults With Mortice Locks
Broken Talon
This fault is easily identifiable: if when you turn the key in the lock it just moves freely without unlocking the door then the talon is defiantly broken.
Key Wont Open The Lock
There are a multitude of reasons that would cause this fault, it could be from an old and worn-out key, leavers becoming worn from keys being left in the door, which can also stop other keys from working in the lock as well.
There are many other problems associated with mortice locks that we come across, however, the best thing you can do is at the first sign of a problem with your mortice lock, such as a lose handle or key not working properly, then contact us your local locksmith to come and replace the locks. Doing this sooner rather than later can save you time and money as it will prevent further problems with the lock down the line that may leave you locked out of your property.

Dan is friendly and professional and clearly knows his stuff. He did an excellent job fixing my UPVC doors. Pricing was transparent and he explained well what he was doing throughout the job.
